Korah Kids is a child sponsorship project based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Our focus on community is very important. As such, all sponsored children are cared for in a family setting. Those who do not have any surviving family of their own are placed with foster families, supported by a social worker, in order for them to be nurtured and cared for in the best possible way.
The Korah Community
Korah is one of the poorest communities in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; a community that exists on and around the city’s main rubbish dump. Daily life is a struggle for hundreds of families who are forced to scavenge through the city’s waste for discarded food to eat, live in make shift houses and drink dirty water.
The local Korah Misgana Church is based in this community and works hard to share the love of God with its neighbors. The church was established five years ago and belongs to the Ethiopian wide network of Misgana churches. It is an active, vibrant, outward-looking community of 75 members.
The creation of Korah Kids
Korah Kids was and is a response of the Korah Misgana Church to the needs of its own community. They identified 150 of the most vulnerable at-risk children who attend the Kids Bible Club; some are orphans, some have parents with HIV/AIDS or leprosy and all face hardship unimaginable to most.
Our Mission Statement
To provide a community based approach to alleviate the socio-economic problems of orphans and vulnerable children in the Korah community.
To educate and enable vulnerable children to grow and develop, and to contribute towards the eradication of social and economic problems in Korah.
